No he's far far worse. There are only two good things that came out of that movie:
Darth Maul - And he snuffed it pretty quickly
Qui Gon Jinn - And he snuffed it pretty quickly

And Anakin in this film is pathetic. His acting is awful, and he was too young. The part was written for 15 year old. But then Lucas decided that a cute young boy would sell more tickets. If you look at of the worst parts with Anakin, they sound pretty good.
Padme: You're a slave!
Anakin: I'm a person. And my name is Anakin
Now that line was frankly embarrassing being delivered by a ten-year old. But imagine a moody teenager saying it. It actually sounds pretty good.

He wasn't that bad in ATC, that scene with his mother was pretty good infact. It wasn't hammy as I thought it might be, he did it well. He wasn't bad at the romance either. Actually what let the romance down was the script, the dialouge was painful.
